STAFF N FIELD OFFICERS SWORD INSCRIBED TO CAPT. JOHN F. CROUSE
31.5 BLADE RETAILED WILLARD & HAWLEY SYRACUSE NY etched on both sides with U.S. , right side of blade etched is ''VICTORY'' and a soldier waving a flag. Left side of blade has inscription etched Capt John F. Crouse 24th Brigade A.G.S.N.Y. BRASS HILT WITH GOLD GILT AND SHAGREEN HANDLE AND BRASS WIRE. BROWN METAL SCABBARD WITH GOLD PLATED BRASS FITTINGS. HE WAS PRESUMED TO BE A STAFF OFFICER ASSIGNED TO THE ADJUTANT GENERAL STATE of NEW YORK { A.G.S.N.Y. thats inscribed in blade } an entirely independent military organization / department in the state hierarchy during the Civil War. Crouse was likely documented in the Phisterer {1890}. Blade has 98% finish with minute stain. Etched panels are 100% crisp and lovely, Metal scabbard showing 90% of original brown lacquer finish, and 90% of the original plating on all of the brass fittings.
